Three-Hour Delay for Monday, March 11, 2024

Just a reminder that the summative assessment starts tomorrow for writing. 8th grade students will test tomorrow. We will be able to do testing as long as we have a full day or a delay.
7th grade will test Tuesday and 6th grade on Wednesday. Please make sure to get a good nights rest and eat a good breakfast. If you have to be absent on your day of testing, please reach out to the office. Good luck - you got this!

A reminder: Turn your clocks up one hour tonight!

With March 1st being tomorrow, we would like to introduce our 16 novels for “reading madness” at Marlinton Middle School. The Pocahontas County Reading Council has worked hard to think of ways to promote reading across the county. We can’t wait for our students to mix some of our favorite novels at school with a little bit of March basketball.
Students will get the opportunity to vote for their favorite novels to move through the bracket! We will be following the March Madness tournament in our own unique way. Stay posted as our students vote to move novels to the Elite 8!

Due to potential icy conditions throughout the county tomorrow morning, all Pocahontas County Schools will operate on a three-hour delay on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

A couple of updates for MMS -
The county social studies fair is tomorrow at PCHS during school day.
After school tutoring will be Tuesday/Thursday this week if staffing allows.
There will be a three hour early out on Wednesday for staff to have a required faculty senate meeting.
On Wednesday, the sasquatch ski program will leave MMS at 12:30 and return to wellness that night at regular scheduled pick-up time.
Thank you!

During the February 20, 2024, Pocahontas County Board of Education meeting, Laurel Dilley, a mathematics teacher at Pocahontas County High School, and students Miranda Gum and Taylor Arnold shared details about the SAT and ACT prep class at the high school. Good morning. We are not having after school tutoring or drama today due to not having available staff. We hope to resume after school on Monday. Also, we have moved signing out students to the front door. An approved adult must come to the front door to sign your student out of tutoring and drama. If no one is at the front door and you need your child early, please ring door bell. Thank you!

From the Regional Science Fair Coordinator:
After careful consideration, we have decided to reschedule tomorrow's Regional Science Fair due to impending winter weather predicted to affect our region. We feel this is in the best interest of students from all participating counties as it ensures safety and equity.
The Regional Science Fair will now be held next Saturday, February 24th. The previously communicated location and times will remain the same.

Just a reminder that progress reports went out today. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s teacher via email or LiveGrades. Also, we encourage students to sign up and stay after school for tutoring on Mondays and Wednesdays. This really helps and gives students the opportunity to work with teachers one on one or in small groups.

Just got an update and current location is between Craigsville and Richwood.

Hello all. Since basketball games at MMS were canceled tonight, staff chose to give students time to see Marshall University. They are about to board to buses to return home. The estimated return time will be 6:30. Thank you! Big shoutout to students for great behavior and staff for making this trip happen for our students!

Buses have arrived at Marshall. Students are very excited for this opportunity and did very well on the bus ride! We will keep you posted on time!

A couple of announcements for field trip tomorrow with Mrs. McNabb.
The buses will leave MMS at 6:30 am sharp. If you are not here on time, unfortunately, you will not be able to attend.
There will be no cell phones or electronics allowed. MMS staff will keep the school updated and all calls and posts will be made about location and activities throughout the day.
Please bring cash if you want to purchase anything from the concession stand and wear your Marshall t-shirt.
Also, after school drama will be on Thursday.
The book fair is going on at MMS and the last day will be Friday. The book fair will be open after school on Thursday until after school drama is over.

Can you define the duties of a school counselor? It seems impossible, but one of the many things that they do is hold each child in their heart. If you see them this week, give them an extra thank you for their dedication and hard work.
Our outstanding school counselors are Linda Beverage at Pocahontas County High School, Ira Brown at Green Bank Elementary/Middle School, Dana Cutlip at Hillsboro Elementary School, Janesa Henderson at Marlinton Elementary School, and Missy Hill-Doss at Marlinton Middle School.

There will be after school tutoring tomorrow instead of Wednesday. There is a field trip on Wednesday and if your child wants to attend, they must turn form in first thing in the morning. If your child is attending Wednesday, they must be here and on bus by 6:30 am and will return after 5:00 pm.

The Calendar Committee has been working on options for the 2024-2025 calendar based on the survey results and following the state code. The committee members are Faculty Senate Chairs, Local School Improvement Chairs, Directors, Instructional Coaches, and your Superintendent. They are ready to share the survey results as well as three calendars during these special calendar meetings. Voting on the calendar will take place later in March.
