Parents and Community Members, Early today a call was received at Pocahontas County High School that required a school lockdown and notification to law enforcement. Once on scene at the high school and out of an abundance of caution our Sheriff's Department recommended lockdown at all schools while they investigated. We are dismissing on a regular schedule. We thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate this situation of keeping all students and staff safe.

✨☕ A Fancy Day for Our Little Learners! ☕✨

Kindergarten students had a wonderful time visiting the Hillsboro Public House for a very special fancy tea party! Parents were invited to attend, making the day even more meaningful as students shared this sweet experience with their families. 💕

The students enjoyed tea, lemonade, and even got to choose a delicious snack—such a treat! 🍰🫖

Before their outing, Ms. Susan helped set the stage by reading two delightful stories, Fancy Nancy and the Tea Party and Miss Spider’s Tea Party, along with the classic poem Teddy Bear’s Picnic, which made the experience even more magical. 📚✨

On their walk to the tea party, students kept a close watch for bears but didn’t spot any along the way. They were pleasantly surprised when they arrived to find the bears already there—having a picnic and waiting just for them! 🧸🫶

We would like to send a huge THANK YOU to the Hillsboro Public House for being so generous and allowing us to have our tea party there. Your kindness helped create such a special and memorable day for our students and families! 💐

🎻🎶 A Special Musical Treat at Hillsboro Elementary! 🎶🎻

We were so excited to welcome Dakota Karper to Hillsboro Elementary today as she prepares for her performance at the Opera House this Saturday! Dakota kindly took time to treat our students to a wonderful morning of Appalachian music and square dancing fun—and what a joy it was! 💃🕺

She was joined by Mary Sue, Mike Burns, and Nico, who helped bring even more energy and tradition to this special experience. Our students had an amazing time learning, listening, and dancing along!

A little about Dakota—she is an Appalachian folk musician and educator dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich traditions of West Virginia’s old-time music. Raised right here in rural West Virginia,

Thank you, Dakota, Mary Sue, and Mike, for sharing your time and talents with our students—it was truly a memorable experience! 🌟

The kids loved seeing and petting all the animals, including pigs, a pony, sheep, chicks, ducks, a cow and calf, and goats. It was a hands-on learning experience that they will be talking about for a long time!
